Worth The Weight

1.1.2009

Following a massive campaign to bring back Wispa Gold, the first bar in the World is available to buy in The Wonder Room at Selfridges for £961.48 – the precise value of its weight in gold.

The eagerly anticipated chocolate bar will be hand delivered to The Wonder Room at 10am on 3rd August by none other than Spandau Ballet’s Tony Hadley - accompanied by a full team of security personnel to ensure the World’s first Wispa Gold is kept under lock and key.

Midas Touch

The velvety chocolate bar is on display for one week only in Selfridges, London following the announcement that Wispa Gold is back for a limited time. One incredibly keen fan can get involved and show their love for Wispa by making themselves the only person in the world in possession of the first Wispa Gold which will be covered in edible gold leaf and sheathed in an exclusive gold leaf wrapper.  All proceeds from the sale of the chocolate bar worth its weight in gold will go to the UK Lowe Syndrome Trust where Tony Hadley has spent many years acting as patron of the worthwhile cause.

Fans who made the return possible can take part in the Wispa Gold rush by visiting Selfridge’s glittering jewellery department, The Wonder Room, for a sneak preview of the Wispa Gold between 3rd and 9th August.

Commenting on the activity Selfridges Director of Wonder Room and Accessories Sebastian Manes says: "The Wonder Room is always full of the latest must-have gifts. The first Wispa Gold bar is so covetable."

"We’re proud to have this much loved British treat on sale beside precious pieces of jewellery and we’re sure that to passionate fans of Wispa Gold, it really is worth its weight in gold."

Power to the People

The return has been instigated by fans tirelessly campaigning via Facebook to bring back Wispa Gold following the massive success of Wispa in 2007. Wispa Brand Manager, Ross Farquhar states: "With a price tag of £961.48 we believe this is the most expensive bar of chocolate to go on sale, ever! However, even if fans can’t afford to buy the bar, it’s all about getting involved and having some fun. So why not come along and visit this one and only special edition Wispa Gold on display in Selfridges, or upload some snaps of yourself and the nation’s favourite chocolate bar to Wispa’s Facebook site."
